Employers Must Notify Employees about the Earned Income Tax Credit

A new law requires employers in California to notify their employees about the federal earned income tax credit (EITC), also known as the earned income credit. It also requires employers to process, upon an employee’s request and in accordance with federal law, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form W-5 for advance payments of the EITC.

Summary of Binding Arbitration Law

On September 30, 2002, Governor Davis signed SB 1156 and AB 2596 into law. These two bills dramatically amend the Agricultural Labor Relations Act (“ALRA”) to provide for “mediation” of collective bargaining disputes that will result in contractual terms being imposed on the parties. This procedure applies to employers with twenty-five or more agricultural employees during any week in the year prior to the filing of a request for mediation with the Agricultural Labor Relations Board (“ALRB”).
