California Posts Lower Workplace Injuries and Illnesses in 2024

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ 2024 Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illness (SOII) showed a 4% drop in incidents for California after showing a 17% drop in 2023. Nationally, SOII showed a 3.1% decline from 2023, about 2.5 million non-fatal workplace injuries and illness, the lowest total since 2003. This decline may be due to the winding down of the COVID pandemic as the overall recordables related to respiratory illness dropped steeply both in California and nationally.
