Newsom Issues Artificial Intelligence Executive Order
Governor Newsom’s May 21 order directs the state government to prepare “for the economic disruption that artificial intelligence will bring to the workforce.” The order intends to “develop new policies, gather data, and identify early warning signs of workforce disruption — while ensuring workers share in the gains created by AI-driven productivity.”
The California Legislature is considering a number of bills in the current session to regulate the use of AI in workplaces, including the use of AI in personnel decisions and using AI to capture information about employee activities for the purpose of training AI models to “replace” human workers.
